Subject: Perl team member != Debian developer
Date: Sun, 19 Oct 2014 15:17:01 +0200
To: bug-Acme-CPANAuthors-DebianDev [...] rt.cpan.org
From: Jonas Smedegaard <dr [...] jones.dk>
Hi, Please note that sync'ing against Perl team member list at alioth.debian.org does not really list "is a Debian developer" nor "contributes to Perl in Debian" but only "is a member of an Alioth team which contributes lots of Perl maintenance work to Debian". Currently the best public place list for "is Debian developer" is <https://nm.debian.org/public/people>. As can be seen at that web page, it is not a simple list but more granular. One option is to draw the line at "has an id at debian.org", but another probably more interesting one would be "has an id either at debian.org or at alioth.debian.org" to also include those involved in e.g. the Perl team without being formal members of Debian. - Jonas -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist & Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ [x] quote me freely [ ] ask before reusing [ ] keep private

If I want to put emphasis on the latter, that means the modules name should be changed to reflect that (e.g. Acme::CPANAuthors::PerlDevianContributor), right? Show quoted text

I actually realized that my list didn't properly match the reality of "is Debian developper", and I had started to think about using the result of `ldapsearch -x -H ldap://db.debian.org -b dc=debian,dc=org objectClass=debianDeveloper` as my source of "Debian developers". What do you think? -- BooK

Not necessarily. "Debian developer" may mean either "Debian contributor" or "official Debian Developer" (a.k.a. contributor _and_ member of Debian). So name of module is adequate IMO - even if expanding to offer multiple facets of the meaning of that and related terms. Show quoted text

That query would provide "is official Debian Developer" a.k.a. "is member of Debian". In the past, the exclusive interpretation was common (you are not really developing for Debian unless you are officially a member of the organization), but in recent times this has shifted to emphasize the broader interpretation and decoupling "membership of the political body" from "doing active work". But sure, you can include that LDAP extract as _one_ flavor of the answer, but I recommend you to use some scraping of the website I proposed as default flavor.
