Subject: Getopt::Long --no-xxx does not work if spec has aliases
The following bug report was originally filed in the Perl 5 bug queue at https://rt.perl.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=121735. Since Getopt-Long is primarily maintained on CPAN, I am moving the report here. -- jkeenan ########## This is a bug report for perl from jim.avera@gmail.com, generated with the help of perlbug 1.39 running under perl 5.18.2. ----------------------------------------------------------------- With the ! modifier of an option specification, the option can be negated with a "no" or "no-" prefix (e.g. --no-igncase negates --igncase). It looks like there is a bug where --no-xxx does not negate if xxx is an abbreviation which uniquely specifies the option but is not unique within the set of aliases for that option. -> No error occurs, and the option is incorrectly set to 1. #!/usr/bin/perl use strict; use warnings; use Getopt::Long qw(GetOptions); @ARGV = ( '--no-ign', "foo", "bar" ); my $igncase = "preset true"; my $debug = 0; GetOptions( "i|igncase|ignorecase!" => \$igncase, "debug" => \$debug, ) or die "bad args"; # This prints igncase=1 debug=0 ARGV=(foo bar) print "igncase=$igncase debug=$debug ARGV = (@ARGV)\n"; ----------------------------------------------------------------- --- Flags: category=library severity=low module=Getopt::Long --- Site configuration information for perl 5.18.2: Configured by Debian Project at Thu Mar 27 18:28:21 UTC 2014. You don't mention what version of Getopt::Long you were testing. This bug has been solved in version 2.40.
