If you look beyond the Latin1 character set, you'll find the following Unicode character: LATIN CAPITAL LETTER Y WITH DIAERESIS' (U+0178) $ perl -CS -le 'print "\x{0178}"' Ÿ
This is a very good point. In general if I were to move to a UTF support, I could get way more üm̈l̈äüẗs̈. I consider this the height of programming finesse. So UTF must be added as a feature!
I've uploaded the UTF version as 1.07. Will close this ticket once it passes testing.
