Subject: ActivePerl 5.18.1 and strawberry-perl 5.18.1 crash after installing Encode 2.55 with cpanm under Windows-XP
Date: Sat, 14 Dec 2013 12:04:56 +0100
To: bug-Encode [...] rt.cpan.org
From: Gerhard Mueller <mail [...] gmusoft.de>
Dear Dan Kogai, Sorry that I found a problem with Encode 2.55 for Perl, which I feel to be important: I installed ActivePerl-5.18.1.1800-MSWin32-x86-64int-297570.msi under Windows-XP with Service Pack 3 and added a couple of CPAN-modules using cpanm of App::cpanminus and then the latest Encode which was Encode 2.55. After that all further calls to Perl made Perl crash. After un-installing Encode with cpanm - which made the installed version of Encode fall back to 2.51 - ActivePerl-5.18.1 behaved well again. I then installed strawberry-perl-5.18.1.1-32bit.msi and did the same. After installing Encode 2.55 all further calls to Perl made it crash. Also un-install via cpanm did not cure the problem. I used MinGW for compilation and dmake. The information I could get about the crash is attached; I hope it helps a little bit. Kind regards, Gerhard Mueller, Germany, Herrenberg, mail@gmusoft.de

Thank you for your report. * I did the same on Windows 7 (the closest environment to Windows XP that I have). No problem found. * Windows XP is no longer maintained. EOL is on its way. So I am sorry to tell you this but I cannot take this ticket. Dan the Maintainer Thereof On Sat Dec 14 06:04:24 2013, mail@gmusoft.de wrote: Show quoted text
