Hello,
We just tried to check a VAT number from Ireland ( IE2974508SH )
This was not not accepted by local check because there are two letters at the end. However the number is valid in the VIES database.
I suspect the Ireland formate has been changed.
When doing a search I found http://www.iecomputersystems.com/ordering/eu_vat_numbers.htm where it says that Irish VAT numbers can have two letters at the end.
Therefore I propose tho change the regex for Ireland to :
IE => '[0-9][A-Za-z0-9\+\*][0-9]{5}[A-Za-z]{1,2}',
Then this would work again for those new numbers.
