Subject: pid_dir should default to /var/run
At least on Linux, according to "man hier" pid files should go into /var/run: /var/run Run-time variable files, like files holding process identifiers (PIDs) and logged user information (utmp). Files in this direc‐ tory are usually cleared when the system boots. FreeBSD also has a /var/run directory with pid files in it. Regards, Slaven
