Subject: Unused PadWalker dependency

Parse-MediaWikiDump-1.0.6 Makefile.PL and META.yml specify a dependency on PadWalker, but grepping finds no other instances of "PadWalker" anywhere in the package. Is this dependency no longer actually used/needed? dan -- Daniel Macks dmacks@netspace.org

Well that's odd, I don't remember ever dealing with Padwalker or why it may have been added. I don't believe there is a current dep there but I also don't know why it would have been added to the metafile. Also I don't know why anyone would be using Parse::MediaWikiDump anymore - it's depreciated, the documentation says it is no longer maintained, and to use the backwards compatibility mode of MediaWiki::DumpFile. While PadWalker may be a dep listed erroneously Parse::MediaWikiDump has been marked as non-supported for a few years now so I'm also not going to fix it. Software has been listed as depreciated for quite some time with recommended migration path to MedaiWiki::DumpFile backwards compatibility mode. Software also states no further changes or bug fixes will be made to Parse::MediWikiDump. Bug confirmed but will not be fixed in dead software project.

I encountered the module via recommendation at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Dump and the examples page linked from there at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Computer_help_desk/ParseMediaWikiDump I now see that there's a note from last year on the talk-page of that latter one about the P::MWD situation and requesting the examples be updated:( dan -- Daniel Macks dmacks@netspace.org

Well the good news is that MediaWiki::DumpFile is much much much much much better than Parse::MediaWikiDump - faster in every way and easier to use. If you don't have legacy code you are trying to work with you definitely want to use MediaWiki::DumpFile instead of Parse::MediaWikiDump. Have fun playing with the MediaWiki dump files, it can be a total blast! I was just doing garbage collection on my ticket queue and saw that this was still open but should have been closed some time ago. Apologies for the noise and I hope your Mediawiki project was successful. Cheers, Tyler
