Subject: bug using UMLS-Interface/Similarity
Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2012 17:43:22 -0400
To: bug-UMLS-Interface [...] rt.cpan.org
From: "Nataliya Prokoshyna" <nataliya [...] cs.toronto.edu>
To whom it may concern: I'd like to report a bug: I'm running on Windows 7 through command line. The screenshot of the error is attached. When I invoke umls-similarity using both "PAR, CHD" relationships (in config.txt), the call works and returns "14" as the original cdist. When I invoke umls-similarity using only "PAR" relationship the call fails with the error in the screenshot. I'm able to replicate it every time. Whether or not I create the index or run --realtime does not impact it. If you ever fix this or find the root cause, I hope you could get back to me. (Please don't use my e-mail on the website however, I don't want spam.) Thanks, Nataliya.

Hi Nataliya, Thanks for this report! For the similarity measures you must use PAR together with CHD (PAR/CHD) and also RB with RN. In general these relations are bidirectional, and so even if we allowed PAR by itself I think the results would be the same. We will add some error checking for the case you found, and issue a more descriptive error message. I hope this helps. Please let us know if other questions arise. Error message will be added to handle this case. Must use PAR/CHD and RB/RN together in similarity measures.
