OK, I see what confusables are, but I don't understand how that could get made part of what Unidecode does. Can you give me an example situation?

Apparently, I didn't thoroughly read the module documentation. I was under the impression that the purpose of the module was to convert unicode to it's visually equivalent ascii. But now I see it's mainly concerned with transliteration.
