Going through old tickets in the Perl 5 RT queue, I came across this ticket:

... in which Andy Dougherty submitted some additional tests in a ticket
entitled "Add tests for stderr-only in IPC::Cmd". They apparently were
never applied.
According to the current 'perlhack', they should be submitted to this
distribution's rt.cpan.org queue. Since the patch was submitted, the
contents of the file to be patched have probably moved around, making a
clean patch unlikely. But if you think the tests are desirable, we
could work up a more current patch.
