Hi, Can you let me know how I read DMs of an auth'd user? I'll send a patch for the docs ;-) Cheers.
Streaming API doesn't allow accessing direct messages, as far as I know.

It does say that you can at https://dev.twitter.com/docs/streaming-api/user-streams "Direct Messages require the proper permissions. See The Application Permission Model."
