Subject: please add CPAN::Reporter directory to cpan o conf
It is very difficult to determine where a configuration file might be placed on a MSWin32 system.
It would be nice if the .cpanreporter directory path were one of the config options for the
cpan shell.  That way one could find the directory and config files that are being used.
This is an issue on systems with more than one perl install and associated file trees
(e.g. Strawberry Perl Portable).

A related issue is the on my Strawberry Perl Portable install, the .cpanreporter directory
was generated at C:/.cpanreporter rather than in the root of the strawberry perl install.
I tried to trace to where things were decided but wasn't able to follow the trail.  Maybe
and explicit directory option could be used.
That's really an issue for Strawberry Perl to resolve. You can already control the location with the PERL_CPAN_REPORTER_DIR environment variable. Setting it in the CPAN.pm config causes more tight coupling between the two modules that Andreas Koenig and I would like to avoid. So with all due respect, I don't think I can help you resolve this issue further and will close this ticket.

Thanks for the reply. I was more thinking about showing the location of the CPAN::Reporter directory rather than setting it from CPAN. I never noticed the PERL_CPAN_REPORTER_DIR setting option. I think I would have discovered this on my own if there had been some words in the first sentence of the CPAN::Reporter DESCRIPTION section. E.g., Default options for CPAN::Reporter are read from a configuration file .cpanreporter/config.ini in the user's home directory (or see the PERL_CPAN_REPORTER_DIR under ENVIRONMENT below to set an alternate location). OK. Then ENVIRONMENT tip was a help. Thanks again. --Chris

Thanks for that suggestion. I had already added a note to that effect in response to your issue. It's in the new development release of CPAN::Reporter that was just uploaded to CPAN. C.f. http://beta.metacpan.org/module/DAGOLDEN/CPAN-Reporter-1.19_03/lib/CPAN/Reporter/Config.pm -- David
