Subject: Please create symlinks to all perlbrew-installed perls
Date: Wed, 16 Mar 2011 14:08:34 +0100
To: bug-App-perlbrew [...] rt.cpan.org
From: Florian Ragwitz <rafl [...] debian.org>
In order to actually use a perlbrew-installed perl, one has to either switch/use that particular perl, or call it by its full path. Using a perl by its full path is quite inconvenient, so I usually do perlbrew switch/use. However, I constantly confuse myself with too many shells using too many different perls when doing that. What I'd like to do instead is to specify the perl to be used when I actually use it, but without specifying its full path, i.e. $ perl-5.12.3 Makefile.PL $ perl-5.13.10 Makefile.PL I got that going by simply putting symlinks containing the version numbers in their names into a directory in PATH. I can't quite believe I'm the only one suffering from being too easily confused and whom these symlinks actually help. Therefore I'm asking you to consider installing these symlinks into some directory by default, while possibly not putting that directory into PATH by default and leaving that decision to the user.
