Subject: PaxHeader directory extracted
When extracting the CPAN distribution XAICRON/Data-Encoder-0.03.tar.gz using CPAN I get following: PaxHeader/Data-Encoder-0.03 Data-Encoder-0.03/ Data-Encoder-0.03/PaxHeader/Changes Data-Encoder-0.03/Changes Data-Encoder-0.03/PaxHeader/inc Data-Encoder-0.03/inc/ ... So for every directory an additional "PaxHeader" directory is extracted. This directory is not extracted if using the system tar (here: freebsd's tar). See also https://rt.cpan.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=64037 Regards, Slaven

Small correction: not for every directory the additional "PaxHeader" directory is created, but for every file and directory. Regards, Slaven

We've had similar problems in the past see: https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=50669 -- Chris Williams aka BinGOs PGP ID 0x4658671F http://www.gumbynet.org.uk ==========================

I have been investigating this issue. http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/utilities/pax.html#tag_04_100_13_02 Describes these pax extended headers. I've just released version 1.74 of Archive-Tar which will skip extracting these headers. This is an interim solution until I can find the tuits to implement something that stashes these extended attributes. Thanks, looks good so far. I can extract Data-Encoder-0.03.tar.gz now. Regards, Slaven
Considering this resolved. Many thanks.
