Subject: Localized title name instead of original title

Hello, thanks a lot for a great module. Since IMDB changed last month, the module does not work very well for me. Most of the issues have been fixed in past updates, but one is still missing. title() returns a localized title, instead of original name. For example, imdb 0955308 (Robin Hood) returns Robin des Bois.

Hi Tolanri, This is a new feature of IMDB, as I understand. I'll try to fix it. But not sure when. On Wed, Oct 20, 2010 at 2:38 AM, Tolanri via RT <bug-IMDB-Film@rt.cpan.org>wrote: Show quoted text

Hi, we got same problem here, and it becomes quite serious. For now, only one workaround, I know is using proxy (first, you must have reliable proxy provider with server located in USA) - of course, there is still possible to patch IMDB, or using regexp... anyway, if you find the time to fix this issue, I think, not only me will be very grateful. Thanks for your great work. On Wed Oct 20 02:30:02 2010, stepanov.michael@gmail.com wrote: Show quoted text

Hi, If you go to IMDB web site using web browser. Can you choose English version some how? I always see English version from Cyprus. So, I cannot reproduce that problem. On Fri, Nov 5, 2010 at 9:09 PM, Ing. Branislav Gerzo via RT < bug-IMDB-Film@rt.cpan.org> wrote: Show quoted text

If it's any help I try to attach HTML page of http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0955308/ accessed from France IP so you can see how page looks like. Not every movie title is localized and some languages have more movie titles translated than others of course... This is very annoying indeed. I found the use of the "akas.imdb.com" mirror to be a decent workaround: $film = new IMDB::Film(host => 'akas.imdb.com', crit => $args); Your titles should now be in English again

Thanks, Henrik, for your solution. This is annoying but I cannot do anything. Because the IMDB redirect by IP to some local site. There are two possibility to avoid it - simulate login procedure and generate cookies. Both of them are complicated. Well that is rather odd. My IRC Bot requests return localized movie titles (German) as well, but changing the host to "akas.imdb.com" fixed it for me. Supposedly it is a mirror that is in English all the time!

That's good. But it's shame IMDB still doesn't offer any API. On Wed, Dec 8, 2010 at 6:50 PM, Henrik Friedrichsen via RT < bug-IMDB-Film@rt.cpan.org> wrote: Show quoted text

For me using host => 'akas.imdb.com' does not work. But the problem seem to be different: Using my web browser I always get the English version. But using IMDB::Film or wget I always got the German version. So I checked the HTTP header and found out that if I use wget --header "Accept-Language: en-US,en" I get the English version. So changing BaseClass.pm to set a header resolved the problem for me. --- orig/BaseClass.pm 2013-05-04 21:47:03.466278882 +0200 +++ new/BaseClass.pm 2013-05-04 21:45:55.000000000 +0200 @@ -134,6 +134,7 @@ $ua->timeout($self->timeout); $ua->agent($self->user_agent); + $ua->default_header('Accept-Language' => "en-US,en"); $self->_content( $args{crit} ); $self->_parser();

I can confirm that the proposed change Show quoted text
> + $ua->default_header('Accept-Language' => "en-US,en");
retrieves the english title if available. While in most cases it is the original title, this is not always the case. For http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053472/ for example, this solution returns "Breathless" (with "À bout de souffle" being the original title). On the other hand, the IMDB web page contains the following information: <h1 class="header"> <span class="itemprop" itemprop="name">Breathless</span> <span class="nobr">(<a href="/year/1960/?ref_=tt_ov_inf">1960</a>)</span> <br><span class="title-extra" itemprop="name"> "À bout de souffle" <i>(original title)</i> </span> </h1> Wouldn't it be more straightforward to use the "title-extra" information from IMDB (perhaps in a variable of its own) to provide the original film title independant of the setting of the local browser language? Regards, Ulrich P.S. Unfortunately, I am not good enough at perl to come up with the adequate patch.
