pod2man and pod2text (I do not know which piece of code is doing this ultimately) turn L<[perl #12345]|http://...> into <[perl #12345]>, instead of [perl #12345]. The presentation of the link varies depending on where the link points. If there is a pipe (|), then the LHS should be used in presentation, regardless of what the right side has.

I can't duplicate this behavior with Perl 5.14.2, and there's no code inside Pod::Man or Pod::Text to add <> around the link text in this case. -- Russ Allbery (rra@stanford.edu) <http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/>

The behaviour appears to have changed since I file that report. Now I get ‘[perl #12345] <http://...>’, which, unfortunately, makes L<aaa|http://...> still just as unusable as before, because the resulting nroff output is an eyesore.

That explains why it was originally invalid pod. :-) I guess there’s nothing more to fix.
