Subject: merge suggestion
I started a similar effort, but never made a really good module of it. One other aspect I had covered was guessing the encoding of a terminal device. Therefore I send typical latin1 and utf8 codes, and monitor cursor movement. This reveals if the tty lives in utf8 or latin1 world. Hi Jürgen Sorry about taking a year to reply - for some reason I failed to see the original notification from RT. I had a quick look at your module and don't see any pressing argument for merging the modules - they're different enough in their objectives and implementations that they can coexist happily.
