Subject: Automatic 2.0 upgrade
I just got this email: Thanks for submitting a test report to CPAN Testers! On September 1st, 2010, we will be disabling email submissions as part of the migration to CPAN Testers 2.0. You must switch over to the HTTP based submission mechanism before that date (metabase transport), or all your test reports will be rejected. For more information, please see the documentation: http://wiki.cpantesters.org/wiki/QuickHowToCT20 For more information on CPAN Testers in general, please visit http://static.cpantesters.org/ And there's instructions of a bunch of modules to install and registration and blah blah blah. That's great! Email based transport sucks. Upgrading CPAN::Reporter should just do the switch. If its an upgrade using an old transport it should ask "CPAN Testers will soon stop accepting email based submissions and has a new HTTP based submission system. Would you like to switch over? [Yes]" (If they answer no, put "asked_about_metabase" into their config). Install the prereqs to have a useful smoker. Change my configuration from whatever transport mechanism I'm using to use metabase. Claim a metabase ID and let me know to expect an email. Otherwise all the manual rigmarole means less casual testers, less obscure platforms and less "in the field" reports. Its bad enough you need to get a confirmation email and cut & paste JSON around.
