CPAN::Reporter: couldn't open history file '/root/.cpanreporter/reports- sent.db': No such file or directory ...note that there is no such directory /root/.cpanreporter. NOt sure whose job it is to create that directory, but I don't think it's mine.

It sounds like you were running CPAN as root and had CPAN::Reporter configured. Maybe we'll disable CPAN::Reporter in CPAN when running as root. -- David
