Subject: Net-Ping-2.31 "make test" errors: non-answering hosts
Trying to upgrade to Net-Ping-2.31 (from version 2.20). I'm seeing a fair amount of failures in "make test" that all seem to be attributable to hosts that used to answer pings that now have them turned off. Would think that a newer list of ping sites would be appropriate for the next version. This applies to multiple environments: Perl version 5.6.1 . OS: Solaris 2.7 uname -a: SunOS fsun 5.7 Generic_106541-16 sun4u sparc Perl version 5.8.0 . It seems that your firewall is not allowing port 80 traffic out from the boxes you are testing on. This is a flaw in the current tests that I'm hoping to take care of soon by only checking traffic on localhost to a high port.
The tests have been adjusted. And they skip those tests with a client firewall forbidding any special traffic. if echo, icmp, tcp or udp.
