Visiting examples/canonical in emacs23 gets
The local variables list in canonical
contains values that may not be safe (*).
* Mode : perl
I suppose "Mode" should be "mode", but I think that setting is
unnecessary, as emacs will recognise perl from the "#!/usr/bin/perl" at
the start (certainly emacs20 and up does).
(In past emacs an unknown variable like capital-M "Mode" didn't provoke
a warning, but it also then, and now, had no effect :-).
