Subject: Unclear Copyright Statement
Hi: Your module says- Copyright 2009 Christian Augustin, all rights reserved. This implies that you wrote all of the code contained in the module. However, this statement would seem to indicate otherwise: Kudos to ITO Nobuaki <banb@cpan.org> for his UUID::Generator::PurePerl module! My work is based on his code, and without it I would've been lost with all those incomprehensible RFC texts and C codes ... If your code is based on someone else's module, then it's rightly copyrighted to both of you, rather than just you (unless the author of UUID::Generator::PurePerl gave you explicit written permission otherwise). As that module is licensed under "same terms as Perl" -- that being, GPL 1+ or Artistic -- rather than public domain, I don't think you can assume copyright of all the work yourself (unless you are saying your code was simply /inspired by/ UUID::Generator::PurePerl, and no code was actually derived from it). I await your response, as I think it's important to clear this up before we update to 1.0202 for Debian. Cheers, Jonathan

At first, I appreciate Augustin's work. :) While some part of this module resembles to my code, I gave up my right for that part. I have no objection to Augustin's copyright. And I have no problem with current credit style (as described in ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS section). It's really more honor than I deserve. You, Augstin, can even minify my credit. (for example, simply mentioning my name in CONTRIBUTORS section.) Regards, -- BANB (ITO Nobuaki)
Augustin and ITO: Thanks very much for the discussion here. Augustin, going forward, I suggest you make a reference to this RT bug or otherwise mention in the POD that the author has very graciously given you permission to take over copyright for his portions of code. I'll close this as resolved and update the Debian package immediately. Thanks again to both of you for your help clearing this issue up. I'm glad we were able to come to amenable terms for everybody. Cheers, Jonathan
I think I gave the credit that you, ITO Nobuaki, deserve. Without your prior work UUID::Tiny would not exist or would've spent much more time to get it up and running. Same with Jesse Vincent's refactoring, additions and suggestions. I'm going to check the copyright statement to better match the licences in the next minor version (1.03). But I have to do some research to get it right this time (and I'm slightly irritated that CPAN does not recognize the licencse - I have no clue what I did wrong). Kind Regards, -- caugustin Am Mi 13.
