syntax mangled
This filter breaks syntax severely. sort no longer accepts an overriding sub. Also, the following syntax is no longer valid:
$ sort = 1;
Fri Jan 23 08:12:02 2004schubiger [...] cpan.org - Taken
Fri Jan 23 08:21:49 2004schubiger [...] cpan.org - Correspondence added
That was expectation, although I haven't tested it on (anonymous) subs.
It was and still is intended to replace the ``common" sort @arr and not
some complexer constructs that shift the input to some block.
What is $ sort = 1 good for?

$ sort = 1
is the same as
$sort = 1
You can see how performing the source filtering you're using can break
a few other things like this.
