Subject: Missing Timeout-Handling
Dear Ian, I am trying to setup a SNMP request page for some users in our intranet. It's nothing special, only a cgi based page, you have to type in hostname und get the results back. My problem is that, if you enter a host, on which isn't running snmpd or Linux, you get a timeout but no error code I could handle. Is there any hidden one I haven't found or how can I handle this? It's running under CentOS 5 with perl 5.8.8, Thanks in advance, Sebastian

Hi, SNMP::Simple doesn't do much more than create a new SNMP::Session object, so you should be able to catch exceptions in the same way as you would using that class. You may also wish to look at Net::Ping and ping the machine beforehand. Hope this helps. On Thu Aug 13 08:58:59 2009, b0lle wrote: Show quoted text

Thanks a lot for your quick answer. The problem is, we have Linux and Windows PCs in our network, so only checking if it's actually there, what I am already doing with gethostbyname, isn't enough. I'll try with the other class, thanks again Show quoted text
