Hello Phil I stumbled over an issue while using your nice exiftool command line application. After copying the metadata from JPG to DNG with the following command (exiftool 7.82, Windows XP) exiftool -ext dng -tagsFromFile %d%f.jpg -r -P -overwrite_original . the values of some items in the maker notes of the resulting DNG file are sort of shifted by one item "position". Just compare the attached screenshots dng-copied-makernotes.png (target) with jpg-makernotes.png (source). You can find a complete package with the image files at http://www.fackelnet.de/exiftool/ff-data.zip (13 MBytes) The images are from a Leica M8.2. Regards and thanks for all of your efforts in creating exiftool Franz -- Franz Fackelmann Mannheim, Germany

Thanks for this very complete bug report. I should have guessed that this Leica quick would bite me at some point: The problem stems from the fact that Leica uses a different base for the makernote offsets in JPEG and DNG images. I was handling this by checking the file type and adjusting the base appropriately, but this strategy breaks down when the makernotes are copied from the JPEG to the DNG (and visa versa). I will fix this problem by adding a patch to exiftool 7.83 to use another technique to determine the proper offset base for these images. I hope to release this version later today. - Phil

That should read "quirk", not "quick".
