Subject: | feature request for $table->add_field and $table->drop_field |
Hello Ran,
I hope this email finds you well. Recently I began a search for a file
based Perl module database capable of storing basic data. I hope to use a
system very much like DB_File for our website. The purpose of this
database will be for tracking applications for rescue animals and the
processing of those applications to coordinate the rescue efforts of about
50 volunteers. My search led me to you and DB_File, which I am hoping
will solve my search for a storage solution.
I am curious, are there any updates or new releases for DB_File past the
posted version 0.031? I also am curious if there was any way possible to
remove or add columns to an already created database short of creating a
new database with the new columns and simply transfer all the records over
by reading them in from the old DB and then inserting them into the new
one? Some form of a $table->add_field or $table->drop_field command as it
were? Unfortunately with all systems, one can not always anticipate all
future needs, so the ability to drop or add add fields / columns after the
fact would prove very helpful. I look forward to hearing back from you on
this. :)
Thank-you for creating DB_File. I look forward to using it. I've begun
my prototype this evening and with any luck will have a working system for
the rescue groups website soon.
