Sorry, I haven't been able to reproduce this on my development machines. It's not surprising: my machines (32bit, bsd-based, perl5.8) seem to be vastly different from yours (64bit, linux-based, perl5.10). I'll keep an eye out for other reports of this, but for now there's nothing I can do.
I must regretfully reject this ticket shortly. I believe that a problem exists, but it seems to be caused by something on your particular system. Nobody else seems to have encountered it the eight months since this ticket was opened. I would love to fix the problem, but I can't diagnose it without being able to reproduce the failure. If the problem persists, could I borrow a shell on the machine for a day or two to examine it? If not, I will close this ticket as "rejected" (there doesn't seem to be a better status) until someone else reports similar. Sorry.
