the patch here really should be applied http://www.perlmonks.org/?node_id=186413 it's hard to find this patch when needed, and the patch works very well i would consider curses "broken" (especially because of the threading issue) without it.

Subject: Fix is in 1.26
I have released release 1.26 with the PerlIO (PerlIO_findFile()) patch in it. The threading patch (sv_isa()) went in years ago.
