Subject: Compatibility with yaz 3?
Date: Mon, 15 Dec 2008 13:41:38 +0100 (CET)

From: Havard Eidnes <he [...] NetBSD.org>
Hi, while updating the packages I had installed on my system, the update updated yaz from 2.1.56 to 3.0.36. As a result, Net::Z3950 no longer builds. Now, myself I don't actually use this module, but I am a maintainer of the NetBSD packages with particular focus on our Perl packages. So I wonder if you have any plans to add compatibility with yaz version 3 to this perl module? Best regards, - Håvard

Hi, Håvard, thanks for getting in touch. No, the old Net::Z3950 module is deprecated in favour of the ZOOM module in the Net::Z3950::ZOOM distribution, as has been since its last relase, 0.51 of 8 May, 2006. Eighteen months on, I think everyone should have had enough time to migrate, and so Net::Z3950 is no longer supported. (By me, at least.) If anyone else wanted to keep it alive, I'd be happy to donate the source code and make an official announcement. _/|_ ___________________________________________________________________ /o ) \/ Mike Taylor <mike@indexdata.com> http://www.miketaylor.org.uk )_v__/\ "What is this talk of 'release'?
