Subject: getting erroneous Makefile
I am trying to install Digest-MD5-2.30 for a complete install of libwww-perl-5.69. It builds without this installed but it is currently listed as a dependency. I am using: This is perl, v5.8.0 built for i386-linux-thread-multi (with 1 registered patch, see perl -V for more detail) running on: Linux 2.4.20-20.9smp #1 SMP Mon Aug 18 11:32:15 EDT 2003 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Running perl Makefile.PL seems to work fine reporting: Testing alignment requirements for U32... no restrictions Writing Makefile for Digest::MD5 however running make reports Makefile:44: *** missing separator. Stop. The attached Makefile is a mess with many syntax errors. Please let me know what needs to be changed to create a Makefile without errors thanks, Steve Sundstrom

please disregard this Bug Report. I ran into a similar problem with DBD::mysql which some searches led me to: http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=87682 which pointed out that changing LANG from en_US.UTF8 to en_US solves the problem for both. More of a workaround than a fix, but the problem obviously lies in the perl version installed on my system and not this Makefile.PL.
