Subject: Various small wishes
Hello Bernd, here is a collection of things which could/should go into a future release: * In Search mode it is possible to select the "Pod" entry from the context menu, but the Pod is not shown. Possible solution: extract the distribution containing the Pod, adjust Tk::Pod->Dir to the extracted directory and try again * There's no way to "force" an installation. Maybe add a config option or ask the user though a dialog box? * Do not remove the tearoffs, at least not on X11 platforms. I find tearoffs very useful, and in fact apps build on top of newer toolkits (Gimp, Konqueror) started to use tearoffs, too. * The CPANPLUS Configuration window should probably use checkboxes and radiobuttons, where applicable. * The CPANPLUS package sources window could use the information of the MIRRORED.BY file, so new hosts could be added by drag and drop. * Restart with another perl version failed on my system --- the other version did not have CPANPLUS installed at all :-) Maybe this should be catched, now the whole process dies. Regards, Slaven
Slaven, * In Search mode it is possible to select the "Pod" entry from the context menu, but the Pod is not shown. Possible solution: extract the distribution containing the Pod, adjust Tk::Pod->Dir to the extracted directory and try again There should be no menu entry without function. I'll consider this. * There's no way to "force" an installation. Maybe add a config option or ask the user though a dialog box? It will be a config option in the next version. * Do not remove the tearoffs, at least not on X11 platforms. I find tearoffs very useful, and in fact apps build on top of newer toolkits (Gimp, Konqueror) started to use tearoffs, too. I don't like them. But when they are getting more common I'll put them back in. Probably in the next version too. * The CPANPLUS Configuration window should probably use checkboxes and radiobuttons, where applicable. The configuration window is very generic at the moment. You are right, checkboxes and radiobuttons have to go in. * The CPANPLUS package sources window could use the information of the MIRRORED.BY file, so new hosts could be added by drag and drop. Information from the mirrored by file will be really helpful, but I don't think I will use drag and drop. It's a pain to get right on different platforms. * Restart with another perl version failed on my system --- the other version did not have CPANPLUS installed at all :-) Maybe this should be catched, now the whole process dies. Restart with another perl is very experimental at best. It works only on unix machines where perl is installed in the right directory. There has to go a lot of work into it to get it right. Many thanks for the input, some of it will go into the next version (when I find the time :-(). Bernd
