Subject: Remember if it's ok to connect to the Internet
I recently set up a CPAN.pm using the default configuration. I was surprised when it asked if it was allowed to connect to the Internet! I don't recall it ever being so timid. After a bit of digging around I realized this is a feature which only happens if you have the default CPAN sites. It would be nice if there was some sort of explanation as to why it's asking. An arguable feature, if you say no nothing works and a non-power-user isn't going to get very far with CPAN.pm without talking to the Internet. Trouble is, every time I reload the CPAN shell it asks me again. Seems the only way to quiet it is to assign my own urllist. It would be nice if it stored my affirmative answer (but not the negative, as it just leads to nothing working) and then didn't ask again. For a negative answer, perhaps it could ask if you want to find a CPAN mirror and kick off the process of selecting one? Thinking further, it seems that the correct question is "we're going to connect to these default CPAN mirrors, is that OK?" If yes, just assign them to the user's urllist and store it. If no, inform the user that they must select a CPAN mirror and fire up the process of selecting one.
