Subject: PadWalker doesn't build against 5.10.0

PadWalker 1.7 incorrectly requires a minimum Perl version. The build error is: PadWalker requires a newer version of perl to build. requires: 5.008002 available: 5.10.0 See the build errors for Windows, Linux, etc. at http://ppm.activestate.com/BuildStatus/5.10-P.html Show quoted text

This looks rather like a bug in the build tools at activestate to me. With standard perl tools Padwalker builds correctly on 5.10 and 5.11 which both should be regarded as > 5.008002. Maybe you can bug activestate?

Yes. It sounds as though there's a bug in *something*, but I'm not sure the bug is in PadWalker. The META.yml for PadWalker 1.7 contains requires: perl: 5.008002 which is perfectly true. PadWalker won't work on any Perl older than 5.8.2. It works fine on 5.10, of course. I agree with Andreas that this sounds like a bug in the ActiveState build system. I wonder if I could work around the problem by specifying the version as "5.8.2" instead: does anybody know? Robin

This has been reported to ActiveState. See AS bug 75700. Show quoted text

That alternative syntax for specifying the version may be worth trying. It should be valid according to module-build.sourceforge.net/META-spec.html#version_specifications Show quoted text
