User suggestion:
Now that we have navigation links, could there be a "slide show" option?
It would work like this:
In a gallery, click slide show. This would cause a timed refresh to
the "next" image - in this case, the last wraps to the first. The
timer value should be a configurable PARAMS value (10 seconds is
probably a reasonable default.)
e.g. slideshow mode gives you a link to "this", but with a slideshow
mode tag. You then create a meta refresh tag that redirects to "next"
for each photo.

Obviously, if there's only one photo in the gallery, slideshow doesn't
make any sense.
A grandparent with arthritis always appreciates it when clicks are
minimized...
