I agree this probably not work as it currently is; however, I'm not sure I want to add version.pm as a depency. I'll poll dev@p.a.o first. stay tuned.

I wasn't able to duplicate this issue, nor was Torsten F. on the mailing list. Additionally, since the current version of perl (5.12) and the last stable version (5.10) include version.pm, I don't think this patch needs to be applied. If I could duplicate it, or see more evidence of the failure and under what situations it is failing, I would be revisit this.
