Subject: All files in tarball are executable

All files in the DBD-Oracle-1.20 tarball are executable. This is clearly not useful. Perhaps you could remove the executable bits from most (all?) files in the next release.
Peter can you be a little more explicit in which files you do not want included?

As far as I can tell, zero of the files in the tarball have to be executable.
The files are the same as other DBD::Oracle releases what is you point?? All files that are there are the ones needed to Make and compile and install. Do you have a specific example??

The topic of this report is "All files in tarball are executable". It is *not* "All files in tarball are redundant", which you appear to read. (?) I am trying to point out that the files in the tarball have executable bits that they don't need. You can of course keep all the files in the tarball.
Ok so what you are saying is all the files have the 'executiable' permission bit set. Is this really a problem?

Well, the executable bit exists, so it should be used correctly. Otherwise we might as well abolish it and allow all files on the operating system to be executed at will. Having the files in the source tarball executable isn't so much of a problem, but the installation routine installs the same files executable in the final destination, and that will cause complaints from users and packaging systems.
A version of the latest release with all executable bits disabled is at http://github.com/yanick/DBD-Oracle/tree/executable-bit
I believe this is fixed in later versions so unless you object we will close this rt now. Martin -- Martin J. Evans Wetherby, UK
