Subject: Which license for DateTime::Precise ?

Hi, I'm trying to clarify which license covers the code for DateTime::Precise. There's no mention of the license anywhere in the tarball or in the code. Also, it is mentioned in the README file that the package is based on the DateTime package written by Greg Fast, however DateTime module doesn't speak about Greg Fast and Greg Fast's page on CPAN doesn't speak about DateTime. http://search.cpan.org/~gregfast/ Regards, Xavier

If I recall correctly, the original DateTime package that I based DateTime::Precise off of was subsumed by the new DateTime package currently in CPAN. So I haven't been able to find the original DateTime package in a couple minutes of searching on my systems and through CPAN and Google, but if you look around and find it, it would be good to have a copy, and we can see the original license terms. Regards, Blair

The current svn repository of DateTime holds the history of this module. I don't know from which release your base code comes from, but here's the link to the 0.01 tag : http://perl-date-time.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/perl-date-time/modules/DateTime.pm/tags/release-0-01_00/ The original LICENSE file states same license as perl, that is GPL or Artistic. Thus I believe DateTime::Precise should be under the same license. If you agree with the reasoning above, could you please add this LICENSE file to DateTime::Precise ? Regards, Xavier

Hi Blair, Did you had time to look at this ? Do you want me to dig further in the svn repository or do you have enough informations now ? Thanks, Xavier

Hi Xavier, The URL does not appear to be for the DateTime::Precise module. In fact, I couldn't find any mention of Greg Fast in the files in that tag. So that LICENSE file does not apply to the DateTime::Precise code. Regards, Blair

Ok, so I guess I misunderstood you. When you said "If I recall correctly, the original DateTime package that I based DateTime::Precise off of was subsumed by the new DateTime package currently in CPAN.", I understood that DateTime currently in CPAN was an evolution of the DateTime package you forked your code from, and thus the svn repository would hold valuable informations. I'm going to mail Greg Fast, he's probably the best one to ask for clarification. I'll copy you if you don't mind. Thanks for your time. Regards, Xavier

Hi Florian, Yes, I was able to contact Greg and with his inputs, we concluded the code is licensed as Public Domain. See the Fedora review bug for details : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=426827 Regards, Xavier
