Subject: ppport.h doesn't yet support the API gv_stashpvs.
Your QDBM_File.xs uses the API gv_stashpvs which is supported as from perl 5.9.3. Furthermore ppport.h doesn't yet support the API gv_stashpvs. As such, the compilation of QDBM_File.xs should be failure on perl 5.8.8 as the stable version. In fact, I didn't be able to compile QDBM_File.xs, either. Of course, QDBM itself has been set up already.
