Subject: Surprise in readme dependancies

Hi In the README you say that we must have IO::Compress::Zlib installed before building Compress::Zlib but CPAN says The Module IO::Compress:Zlib isn't available on CPAN However installing IO::Compress::Gunzip does seem to do what is needed Regards, Todd Olson

make that be IO::Uncompress::Gunzip (sigh) Regards, Todd Olson

Hi Todd, thanks for the feedback. The IO-Compress-Zlib *distribution* is available on CPAN http://search.cpan.org/~pmqs/IO-Compress-Zlib-2.006/ Which doesn't exist is a perl *module* called IO::Compress::Zlib. The problem is down to the CPAN shell not knowing what to do with distributions where there isn't a module that matches the distribution name. I guess we are stuck with the behaviour in CPAN for the moment, so I'll redo the paragraph on the prerequisites. cheers Paul

Yep, and that was causing a problem for Bundle::CPAN (now fixed). Show quoted text

Thanks for confirming that ... Show quoted text

Great. QUESTION: Would there be a net advantage to making a place holder module named IO::Compress::Zlib, so that modules that use IO-Compress-Zlib would have something obvious to claim they depended on to get the distribution? Regards, Todd

That has occurred to me, but I've resisted the temptation so far. I'll see how things go with changing the prerequisite to a real module in the README. If it becomes a major issue (i.e. I get a lot of mail about it), I'll revisit it. Paul

I'm confortable with that. Regards, Todd
