Subject: | Please don't include non-modifiable documentation in your module |
I'm part of the Debian Pkg-perl group, which maintains your module in
the Debian distribution.
Part of our criteria for all software included in Debian is that we must
grant all of our users the right to modify and redistribute all of our
packages. I know (I think, at least) you share this point of view, as
your module is licensed under a free license.
Your module includes, however, non-free documentation - The IETF RFCs
are freely redistributable but (and quite understandably) only in their
original form. This forces our group to repackage your module - If you
download Debian's libdatetime-format-mail-perl (the package containing
your module) versions 0.2901-3 or 0.3000+dfsg-1, you will find the only
difference is that
notes/rfc822.txt and notes/rfc2822.txt were removed (and of course, they
are also removed from the MANIFEST).
As it is a publicly available document, we would be most grateful if you
could remove this file from your packaging and only mention the URL
where this RFC can be found (http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc822.txt and
rfc2822.txt) as
part of your module's documentation. That way, we will be able to ship
the sources straight as we got them from you.
Thank you very much.
