Subject: Mac::Carbon fails to install on Darwin ... and prevents File::HomeDir upgrade
(Since the failure of Mac-Carbon-0.77 prevented me from upgrading File-HomeDir to 0.64, what follows is a dupe of the bug report I filed on File-HomeDir.) In the course of trying to install Template::Toolkit tonight, I was prompted to add File::HomeDir. I thought this was surprising, because I've had File::HomeDir installed for some time -- and every time I use the cpan shell that fact is noted. So the shell prompted me to install the latest File::HomeDir, but that, in turn, prompted me to install Mac::Carbon. Now, although I'm on Darwin, I have never had need of those CPAN modules oriented toward pre-OS X Macs. So I was rather annoyed at this prompt. I dutifully said yes -- but then the installation of Mac::Carbon failed, with a message saying that Mac::Files could not be located in @INC -- even though it's part of the Mac::Carbon distribution! So because of these non-desired prerequisites, I can no longer get the latest version of File::HomeDir. (Template::Toolkit installed nonetheless; don't ask me how.)

I've had the same problem. I was trying to install Catalyst and I got to the part where CPAN from the shell was trying to get/make/install File::HomeDir (but first of all, it was looking for an older version 0.58 of File::HomeDir when there is actually a newer version like you noted. So, I manually tried to install File::HomeDir but I had the same problem with Mac::Carbon (0.77) when it ran make tests. I wish there was a way around this... I was just starting to get back into Perl so I haven't done much with it lately. Andy On Wed Feb 21 20:23:06 2007, JKEENAN wrote: Show quoted text
