Subject: JpgFromRaw bug with CR2 files in v6.65
Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2006 22:48:22 +0100

From: "Horváth Varga János" <horvath.varga.janos [...] gmail.com>
I would like to notice the following bug with exiftool 6.65 JpgFromRaw command do not work with CR2 files from my Canon 20D camera (firmware 2.0.0). It cannot read nor write! It reads a 0 byte length jpg file only and if I try to write it reports that file was not modified. I tested my commands with CRW files from Canon 300D and my exiftool -JpgFromRaw commands were working fine! So this shows me that the problem is somewhere with handling CR2 and not with my user command syntax. For safety, I also tested it with different exiftool "versions": I tried it with the 6.65 precompiled exe file and also installed an activeperl v5.8.8.819 It did the same in both cases. So it is independed if precompiled exe or perl source. I also tried -ThumbnailImage and -PreviewImage commands for my CR2 files. They are working fine both in read and write operations! Congratulation for this, this CR2 preview writing function will save my IMatch cataloging job :) best regards, hvj

Thanks for the report, but there is no bug here. The CR2 format contains only two embedded JPEG images. In ExifTool, one called ThumbnailImage, and the other is PreviewImage. There is no JpgFromRaw image in a CR2. Some raw formats contain three embedded JPEG's, and for these both PreviewImage and JpgFromRaw may exist, but this doesn't apply to CR2 images. - Phil
