Subject: Installing threads 1.41 from CPAN panics OS X 10.4.7 on Intel
Issuing "install threads" with perl 5.8.6, CPAN 1.76_01, MacOS X 10.4.7, Intel iMac Core Duo 1.83 reliably kills my machine during the tests for one of the "free" routines. I am compiling with -j3. Here's the panic log: panic(cpu 1 caller 0x00325B36): fdfree: found fp with UF_RESERVED Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x13d5bdc4 : 0x128b5e (0x3bc46c 0x13d5bde8 0x131bbc 0x0) 0x13d5be04 : 0x325b36 (0x3d96d4 0x297 0x13d5be44 0x31444a) 0x13d5be44 : 0x32d163 (0x32583e8 0x8 0x0 0x13d5be68) 0x13d5bed4 : 0x13b348 (0x32583e8 0x1 0x13d5bef4 0x19caf2) 0x13d5bf04 : 0x13cbad (0x32fb414 0x32fb0a0 0x32fb0a0 0x195b81) 0x13d5bf44 : 0x13ca05 (0x32fb434 0x32fb0a0 0x32fb318 0x13d5bf78) 0x13d5bf84 : 0x127215 (0x1 0x0 0x2 0x0) 0x13d5bfb4 : 0x19c173 (0xffffffff 0x1 0x2bf9b0c 0x4a2000) 0x13d5bfd4 : 0x197be8 (0x0 0x32fb318 0x32fb318 0x4a2000) Backtrace terminated- invalid frame pointer 0x13d5bf78 Kernel version: Darwin Kernel Version 8.7.1: Wed Jun 7 16:19:56 PDT 2006; root:xnu-792.9.72.obj~2/ RELEASE_I386 Model: iMac4,1, BootROM IM41.0055.B02, 2 processors, Intel Core Duo, 1.83 GHz, 1 GB Graphics: ATI Radeon X1600, ATY,RadeonX1600, PCIe, 128 MB Memory Module: DIMM0/BANK 0, 512 MB, DDR2 SDRAM, 667 MHz Memory Module: DIMM1/BANK 1, 512 MB, DDR2 SDRAM, 667 MHz AirPort: spairport_wireless_card_type_airport_extreme (0x14E4, 0x89), 103.2 (3.120.28.3) Bluetooth: Version 1.7.5f10, 2 service, 1 devices, 1 incoming serial ports Network Service: AirPort, AirPort, en1 Network Service: VPN (PPTP), PPP (PPTP) Serial ATA Device: Maxtor 6L160M0, 152.67 GB Parallel ATA Device: MATSHITADVD-R UJ-846 USB Device: Built-in iSight, Micron, Up to 480 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: Mass Storage Device, Prolific Technology Inc., Up to 480 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: Hub in Apple Pro Keyboard, Mitsumi Electric, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: Apple Optical USB Mouse, Mitsumi Electric, Up to 1.5 Mb/sec, 100 mA USB Device: Apple Pro Keyboard, Mitsumi Electric, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 250 mA USB Device: Bluetooth HCI, Up to 12 Mb/sec, 500 mA USB Device: IR Receiver, Apple Computer, Inc., Up to 12 Mb/sec, 500 mA FireWire Device: RW-019, Lexar, Up to 400 Mb/sec FireWire Device: 1394 BJ_LUN0, Canon, Up to 400 Mb/sec FireWire Device: (1394-ATAPI rev1.10), Prolific PL3507 Combo Device, Up to 400 Mb/sec

I am closing this bug report due to a lack of responsiveness by the poster for test results to help investigate the problem. I would recommend to the poster to try the lastest version of the threads module to see if the problem has been corrected.
