On my G5, the default Perl is v5.8.6. Did you build your own Perl 5.8.8? If so, did you use any special settings different from Apple's settings? Did you have a previous version of Perl::Critic installed? It installs fine for me with Apple's 5.8.6 on 10.4.6. -- Chris

Yes, I built 5.8.8 under /usr/local. I can't say for sure it's configured exactly as apple's is, but it's certainly not configured in any particularly odd way. I may have a previous Perl::Critic installed, but I have CPAN.pm configured to do an UNINSTALL=1, so I would have thought that would have taken care of that. Although, now that I'm thinking it out in words, that wouldn't happen until I actually installed. D'oh. Is there any particular recommended method for getting rid of a previous installation, or should I just hunt it down and delete it? Show quoted text

No need for apologies. I've encountered similar, obscure problems myself dealing with old, installed copies of P::C. The software is still moving too quicly for us to account well for backward compatibility, somewhat to the agony of the early adopters. From your earlier post, it looks like your old version of P::C is installed in: /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.7/Perl/Critic --Chris

Also /usr/local/lib/perl5//site_perl/5.8.7/darwin-2level/auto/Perl/Critic and /usr/local/lib/perl5//site_perl/5.8.8/darwin-2level/auto/Test/Perl/Critic and /usr/local/lib/perl5//site_perl/5.8.8/Test/Perl/Critic.pm Guess I'll wipe 'em all out and start over.
