Subject: wrong flattening value for WGS84 in Geo-Ellipsoid-0.901?
Hello there, after reading the documentation for Geo-Ellipsoid-0.901, it seems that there might be a minor flaw in the module: I believe that the flattening for the WGS84 ellipsoid is slightly different than that for the GRS80 ellipsoid. The flattening value 1/298.257223563 is what I've seen for the WGS84 ellipsoid, rather than a duplicate of the 1/298.25722210088 flattening value of the GRS80 ellipsoid. If that is indeed the case, then correcting the value for the module and its documentation should be fairly simple. Thanks for making the module available to all! Thanks for the comment. I took the WGS84 value from the original Fortran program at <ftp://ftp.ngs.noaa.gov>, which has the comment that this value applies to WGS84, GRS80, and NAD83. However, additional research on the web substantiates the value of 1/298.257223563 as the "official" WGS84 value, as you point out. There are some comments in papers that make me wonder if the difference is actual or just a difference in terminology between GRS80 and WGS84. I will change the value in my module at the next upload. Thanks again for your help. -- - Jim Gibson email: Jim@Gibson.org
