Subject: | Installation problem with 0.53 on Perl 5.8.3, RH9 Linux |
Had a problem installing XML::SimpleObject-0.53 on Linux Red Hat 9 (custom Perl install, not the prepackaged Red Hat version). The README indicates that if I want to build the version with LibXML, I have to go into that directory and specifically do the "perl Makefile.PL, etc" fandango there. However, if I try just build XML::SimpleObject without that (just "perl Makefile.PL" from the root directory of the distribution), it tries to build it anyway and bombs on my system because I dont have the prerequisite modules. I had to delete the LibXML directory in the distribution to stop it from trying to build it, and then it went ahead and installed. If it's not possible to avoid having it try to build the other feature, maybe include a note in the README file telling people to delete the directory if they don't want that part.
