Subject: library name overload on CentOS7
Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2018 22:32:28 +0000
To: bug-UUID [...] rt.cpan.org
From: Greg Cox <gcox [...] mozilla.com>
Hi, In attempting to package UUID, it took me a long time to discover that CentOS7 ships a package called uuid-devel (which DOES NOT work), and a package called libuuid-devel (which DOES work). uuid-devel is mentioned by name in Makefile.PL, and fails with things like: assertlibVxmaV_PQ.c:13:13: error: too few arguments to function ‘uuid_compare’ ... which is "something's wrong but I'm not sure what" to non-dev me. Basically, it'd be cool if you had a little more of a nudge in the direction of the right package to install, since there's naming-overload going on. If you could detect it, that'd be even more awesome, but a doc fix would be cool too. Thanks for your time. -Greg
Hi Greg, Thanks for the heads-up. I wasn't aware that yet another libuuid variant was out there. I'll try to get a release candidate posted over the weekend that works with whichever version happens to be installed. Thanks! Rick
Changes for version 0.28 - 2018-12-29 Add OSSP variant of libuuid. CentOS7 (and presumably other RedHat derivatives) have packages for both OSSP and e2fs. Favor e2fs, if found, since our implementation of OSSP is probably slower.
