I stumbled over the Module::Build "issue" while doing https://github.com/rehsack/meta-cpan/commit/0f4c003ba90bd45f010551eb344d731c67bfef36
In past we encountered several builds where the compiled code on the target caused SEGV since wrong compiler instructions during build. It is in general extremely difficult to change the way M::B behaves - and extremely easy to do it for make :)
