Subject: BasePath should be mkdir'ed if it doesn't exist
The BasePath is presumed existing. It'd be nice for the user if you mkdir'ed this if it didn't exist, instead of simply aborting.

This seems like a good idea. Do you think I should limit it to create at most one level of directories or should it create directories recursively (mkpath)?
