I am not sure if your interested in looking at extending your code to handle raid controllers. "smartctl --all --device=cciss,0 /dev/sdb" gets me the info but its slightly different than I get from the usual smartmon for a normal hdd. I have attached the output if you feel inclined to take a shot at extending your code.
